FAQs

What is coaching?

Coaching is a supportive, forward-looking conversation that helps you make sense of where you are, what you want, and how to move towards it. It’s not about being told what to do - it’s about working together to explore your thoughts, habits, emotions and choices so you can make changes that feel right for you.

At Crescent Coaching, coaching is grounded in psychological, evidence-based methods. Everything we do is informed by research into what really helps people grow and make meaningful, lasting change.

What can I expect?

Each session is a calm, focused space just for you - somewhere to talk, reflect, and think things through without judgment or pressure.

Here’s what it usually involves:

  • Listening and reflection: I’ll ask thoughtful questions, reflect back what I hear, and help you spot patterns or perspectives you might not have noticed.
  • Goal-oriented but flexible: You might come with something specific, or just a sense that something needs to shift. Either way, we’ll work with what matters most to you.
  • Psychologically-informed tools: Drawing on coaching psychology and behavioural science, we’ll explore deeper patterns - not just surface-level fixes.
  • Lasting change: You’ll leave each session with insight, clarity, and small actions that move you forward.

Is coaching right for me?

Coaching can help if:

  • You feel stuck or unsure of your next step
  • Life feels busy or overwhelming and you want space to think
  • You’re at a crossroads or facing a decision
  • You want to feel more confident, grounded or in control
  • You’re not sure what’s wrong - but something just feels “off”

You don’t need a big goal or dramatic issue. If you’re open to exploring, reflecting and making gentle shifts, coaching might be a really good fit.

Do I need to have it all figured out before I start?

Not at all. In fact, most people don’t. You might just have a feeling that you want things to change, even if you’re not sure how yet. That’s a great place to begin.

Can I try it first?

Yes - absolutely. I offer a free 20-minute discovery call so we can meet, talk through what you’re looking for, and see if we’d work well together. There’s no pressure to commit after that.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Coaching is focused on the present and future. It’s about understanding yourself, building awareness, and making changes to move forward. Therapy, on the other hand, often explores the past and may involve working with mental health issues.

If something comes up that feels more therapeutic, I’ll always be honest and help you find the right support. Coaching and therapy can also work well alongside each other.

How often should we meet?

Most people choose to meet weekly or fortnightly, but this can be flexible. We’ll work out a rhythm that fits your lifestyle, pace and energy.

Where do the Walk & Talk sessions happen?

I offer Walk & Talk coaching in peaceful locations across North Hertfordshire and South Cambridgeshire – including the countryside around Royston, Hitchin and Cambridge. We’ll choose a route that suits your pace and level of comfort.

Can I switch between Walk & Talk and online sessions?

Yes, definitely. Many clients enjoy having that flexibility. Some weeks you might want a reflective walk outdoors, and other times a quiet online session might suit you better. We can adapt as we go.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens. I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule or cancel a session - otherwise, the full fee may still apply. That said, I try to be flexible and understanding where possible.

Do you offer reduced rates?

Yes. I keep a small number of lower-cost slots available for those on limited incomes. If cost is a barrier, please feel free to ask - I want coaching to be as accessible as possible.
